I recently purchased a HTC Vivid on Craigslist while on vacation in California (my home state I might add). There was a plethora of these phones available in the area I was visiting and I figure when I am done using this solid Android smartphone I’ll still be able to sell it for the same amount I paid if not more using Craigslist or some similar outlet on the web, maybe Swappa.

I purchased the Vivid fully knowing the phone is sold to operate with AT&T service, but I knew the good guys at HTCSIMUnlock.com would be able to help me get this phone unlocked and ready to run with my T-Mobile SIM card.

The process is simple, contact HTCSIMUnlock.com using their website, provide them with the IMIE number to your new/locked phone and follow the steps below. Please note these steps were used for a HTC Vivid and unlocking other phones may vary.

Insert T-Mobile SIM card and power on the HTC Vivid.

Unlock the phone using the circular slider.

Enter the code received from HTCSIMUnlock.com when you see the prompt, ”Enter the SIM network unlock PIN” and press enter or done.

At this time you should see a successful message and the HTC Vivid will restart.

After the phone has restarted, go to Settings, select Mobile Network, select Network Operators, press Search networks (T-Mobile & AT&T should pop-up) and then select T-Mobile. Your phone will begin registering with T-Mobile’s network and will notify you when this is complete. You may have to reboot one more time, but other than that your phone has been configured for cellular use with T-Mobile.

Thanks again to HTCSIMUnlock.com for the assistance!

I have a big announcement for those of you who visit this site on occasion. HTCfanatic.com is combining with the folks at HTCSource.com with the intent to consolidate resources and offer a single location for fanatics to find the latest HTC news.

It has been tough to keep up with all the bits of news streaming from all over the web in daily or even weekly articles from HTCfanatic so joining the HTCSource team will make it easier to focus on the content and other projects I have in mind and would like to deliver to fans out there.

About HTCSource.com

The first HTC fan site was started by Nick Gray in 2004 when HTC was still a backseat manufacturer providing quality Windows Mobile handsets without their logo and well-known slogan, “Quietly Brilliant” printed anywhere on the device. HTCSource has a huge library of articles covering just about every piece of HTC hardware known outside of the company walls.

Please join in the conversation with other HTC fans at HTCSource.com and be sure to pay close attention to the site this weekend as HTC has some special announcements to make before Mobile World Congress kicks off regarding a new line of smart devices for 2012.

Earlier this month, HTC officially announced that they are aware of a wireless vulnerabiltiy on some HTC handsets running Android. The vulnerability comes with any application that requests access to “ACCESS_WIFI_STATE” and allows others to see the passwords used by the user to connect to wireless access points at home or while on the go.

Fortunately, this weakness was discovered by a couple of researchers who then reported the issue to HTC. A detailed report of the exploit including a discovery timeline and information on those that discovered the issue can be found on this blogger site.

The report claims the vulnerability has been found on many HTC devices currently on the market across the world and it appears that HTC has already patched a few phones; even before HTC went public with the announcement. Below is a list of phones known to have this flaw:

Desire HD (both “ace” and “spade” board revisions) – Versions FRG83D, GRI40
Glacier – Version FRG83
Droid Incredible – Version FRF91
Thunderbolt 4G – Version FRG83D
Sensation Z710e – Version GRI40
Sensation 4G – Version GRI40
Desire S – Version GRI40
EVO 3D – Version GRI40
EVO 4G – Version GRI40

If you have one of the phones listed above, it is probably a good idea to go to your phone’s settings and check for a manual update or visit HTC’s website to see if additional instructions for downloading a fix has been published there. Several phones, particularly on Sprint’s network have already received updates applying a few other patches; like the removal of CarrierIQ and it is likely that other devices should see something in the near future.

Since the announcement of Ice Cream Sandwich, Google’s latest version of the Android operating system, users have been eager to see what manufacturers are preparing to serve us in the near future. Unlike several other mobile hardware creators HTC did not have a lot to show off this week at the Consumer Electronics Show except the monster Windows Phone the HTC Titan II. Is HTC holding out until Mobile World Congress in February or is a specific release party in the works at some large city before then?

The HTC Ville could be the companies first ICS handset and the latest rumor is that it is headed to T-Mobile. Previous rumors say the Ville is weighing in at less than 8 ounces, has a 1.5 GHz dual-core processor with a 4.3” qHD display. This is a high end dual-core phone and what sets it apart from the pack is that it will have the latest version of Android and possibly with the HTC Sense user interface overlaying.
