Android 2.2 Has Been Released On The Evo 4G

This morning as I went through a ritual I started this weekend to check for the Froyo update on my test Evo 4G, my mouth about dropped to the floor when I was asked to download the update. I work on an Army base where major cellular carriers are not too popular so my total download/install process took about 85 minutes. Other than the long wait, the update was smooth and the Evo 4G has yet to skip a beat. If you have the Evo 4G and some time I recommend manually requesting the download or you can wait until the scheduled update is pushed OTA. Here is how to do it manually:

  1. Press the MENU button from the Home screen
  2. Select SETTINGS
  3. Scroll down to the bottom and select SYSTEM UPDATES
  4. Select HTC SOFTWARE UPDATE
  5. Press the CHECK NOW button and follow the remaining prompts

With Verizon rumors a float over the release of Android 2.2 on several “Droid” smartphones to release this week I get the impression there may have been some visible competition to be the first carrier to introduce the update to the public… Ding, ding, ding, the winner is Sprint! Congrats to all you Evo 4G users :)
